- The Legal unit generally deals with Legal and administrative matters of the Ministry and its Agencies. It is incumbent on the Legal Unit to ensure that the Ministry’s interest are safe guarded in all matters at all times. The Legal Unit of the Ministry reports to the Honourable Minister and Permanent Secretary. The Unit deals with Legal and Administrative matters from the Honourable Minister, Permanent Secretary, Departments, and the Ministry’s Parastatals namely Centre for Management Development (CMD), National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and Nigerian Institute for Socio-Economic Research (NISER). The Unit activities includes but not limited to the following,
- • Rendering legal advice/opinion
- • Liaising with National Assembly on Bills emanating from the Ministry and its Parastatals as it concerns Budget and National Planning.
- • Representing the Ministry in Mediation and Arbitral Tribunals;
- • Drafting and vetting of Agreements and Legal Instrument.
- • Participating in Monitoring and Evaluation of the activities of International Non –Governmental Organization and Local Non-Governmental Organization.
- • Any other duties as may be assigned to the Unit by the Honourable Minister or the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry
- • Offering appropriate legal interpretation /explanations on specific. Provisions of the law from time to time
- • Drafting / preparation of legal documents/ agreements
- • Representing the Ministry in court on legal matters and Arbitration.
- The Legal Department is headed by the Legal Adviser and assisted by Five (5) legal officers
