In a quest for Economy growth of the Nation, the Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has reaffirmed the commitment of his Ministry to ensure that the existing cordial relationship between Nigeria and Canada is improved upon.

The Minister stated this while receiving in audience the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria and its team, who were on a courtesy visit to his office.

He acknowledged all their kind assistance to Nigeria, saying Canada’s expertise in many areas provides opportunity to deepen relationship in mutually beneficial manners.

In his word Bagudu noted that President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is open to a better relationship with international communities and ready to create better opportunities for the Country.

“Nigeria has been and will always want to be that Country that apart from paying his dues to international cooperation , also participate with other Countries in ensuring that we create more equitable ,more climate friendly world and Canada has achieved a lot in this areas. Learning from a Country like Canada, who has assisted us a lot is one opportunity we will take.”

“Agriculture is one of the 8 priority areas of this administration as well as the opportunity to generate higher economy growth as one of the areas where we can do better, we believe in the institutional alignment, the personal drive of Mr. President and measures that have been taken since 29th of May when he was sworn in that is the removal of the petroleum subsidy, regulation of exchange rate are all design to convince Nigeria of the measures that we need to take and to show international investors and development partners that of how serious we are to address those issues that we belief are militating against investing in our country Nigeria.”

He further explained that the Ministry is willing to cooperate with the High Commissioner and his team in conjunction with other Ministries to ensure that we build on the relationship and provide an avenue for cooperation.

Earlier in his remarks, the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria, His excellency, James Christoff congratulates the Honourable Minister on his appointment and also taking note of the administration of His excellency the President , the principle and objective which is been translated through the mandate of the Budget and Economic Planning Ministry.

He stated that their mission is to reaffirm Canada’s commitment as a member of the international community and to continue to work in areas that are priorities for the Ministry and the Government of Nigeria.

The High Commissioner assures that there is a lot of room for cooperation between both countries on goals and services that mutually beneficial.
