The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Nebeolisa Anako has commended the UN~ agencies and Development Partners for their support for the Social Protection Programmes in Nigeria.

The Permanent Secretary who was ably represented by Dr. Sanjo Faniran, the Director of Social Development Department of the Ministry,made this remark while declaring open the two day Sensitization Workshop for the Community of Practitioners for the implementation of the National Social Protection Policy held at Mararaba, Nasarawa State, which held this week.

In his words, “permit me to express the appreciation of the Government of Nigeria to the UN~ agencies, other Development Partners for their support to Social Protection Programmes in Nigeria. My appreciation also goes to the representatives of the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for your commitment to the implementation of Social Protection Programmes in Nigeria.

Recall that the Community of Practitioners was inaugurated on the31st of August, 2023, by the Honorable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu to enable the country have an effective implementation and reporting of Social Protection in Nigeria.

According to Anako, “it is on this note that the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning set out to establish the Community of Practitioners (CoP) for the different actors for the social protection across the MDAs for the implementation of the National Social Protection Policy. The Community of Practitioners will provide the platform for progress, share knowledge and skills, exchange information as well as track the status of the implementation of Social protection in their various MDAs”

The Workshop thereafter swung into action with robust, critical, insightful and cerebral sessions as well as engaging discussions from both the facilitators and participants.

The final outcomes of this timely workshop will be made available to the Ministry and the EU at the appropriate time.
