The Minister of Budget and Economic planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (CON) has assured the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Nigeria, of continued cooperation from the Ministry to foster peace across the country.
He made this known when he received a delegation, led by the Resident Representative of the UNDP to Nigeria, Mr. Mohammed Yahya, in his office, recently.
The Minister extolled the role of the UNDP in fostering peace in Nigeria over the years; he explained that Nigeria was blessed with hardworking men and women across the country who had played major roles in generating peace around the world “as Nigeria is a prominent member of the UN that have supported in the evolution and development of the UN System right from inception”
He continued that inclusive growth was one of the major items in the National Development Plans 2021 – 2025 as well as, the “Nigeria Agenda 2050” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, adding that Nigeria was very pleased that the UN system had been involved with the country’s development.
The Minister therefore assured the team of continued cooperation from the Ministry as the national goal aligned with the aspirations of the UNDP.
While speaking, Mr. Mohammed Yahya, informed the Minister that the program of the UNDP was anchored on 3 major pillars as approved by the Ministry, earlier in the year.
He explained that the activities of the Program on inclusive growth, good governance and peace building across the country through the Federal and State Government levels was in progress, he further informed that the UN had a huge stabilization program in the North-East where he proposed that the Minister acted as a co-chair when the governing board began operation.
He also disclosed that for the first time, Nigeria had applied for the Green Climate Fund which would be injected into the climate in Nigeria, as some parts of Nigeria had suffered flooding as a result of the Climate change.
