The Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has called on the National Assembly for robust collaboration with the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning to ensure that the plans and visions of the Country are achieved.
The Minister made the call when the Leadership of the House of Representatives Committee on Aids, Loans and Debt Management paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Senator Bagudu said that the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning is in charge of developing short, medium and long term plans for the nation and ” if we agree on a vision or plan as a nation, we should interrogate the plan to change what is wrong and where we are doing well, we continue to achieve the desired objective”.

“In these days of performance metric or performance measurement , if the system does not appreciate the need to align with plans from the Ministry that has the task of planning for the country, measurement would become a tricky process”
.
“As part of the national planning process which involves both national and sub nationals, the Ministry is mandated under the International Cooperation Department to relate with the development partners so as to encourage them to support the country in line with our national aspirations”.
He added that the visit of interfacing group such as an important committee from the National Assembly was timely and encouraging.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, House Committee on Aids, Loans and Debt Management, Honourable Abubakar Hasan Nalaraba said there was no way a nation could make budget provisions without considering the debt profile of the nation.
He added that part of the mandate of the Committee was to liaise with the concern agencies to solve the Country’s debt burden.
The Chairman who was accompanyed by the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Lanre Okunola and Secretary of the Committee, said
they were in the Ministry to familiarize themselves in line with the mandate of the committee and also to congratulate the Minister on his well deserved appointment to the ministry.
