SENATOR ABUBAKAR ATIKU BAGUDU (CON)

Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu is a 1983 graduate of Economics from Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, and acquired his first Master’s Degrees in Money and Banking from the University of Jos in 1989. In 1992, he was a World Bank Scholar at Columbia University, New York’s pioneer Program in Economic Policy Management (PEPM). At Columbia, he obtained a Second Master’s degree in International Affairs with specialization in Economic Policy Management. 
Senator Abubakar Bagudu’s career in banking bestrode institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria as an Economist, CitiBank (Formerly Nigeria International Bank) and FSB International Bank Limited. After a stint with the World Bank/IFC in 1993, he served as a Special Assistant to Dr. Kalu
Idika Kalu when the later was Honourable Minister of Finance.
In 2009, he was elected to the Nigerian Senate to represent Kebbi Central and got re- elected in 2011. Following this, he was elected Governor of Kebbi State in 2015 and re-elected in 2019 for a second term. Between 2019 and 2023 he served as the Chairman, Progressive Governor’s Forum
and became Vice Chairman, Nigeria Governor’s Forum between November 2022 and May 2023. Senator Bagudu was also Chairman, Presidential Task Force on Rice and Wheat Production and Vice Chairman, National Food Security Council. He was the Vice Chairman, Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (PAGMI) between 2017 and 2023.
In addition, he has extensive private sector experience both as director and chairman of various companies.
Senator Abubakar Bagudu is a recipient of Nigeria’s National Honour of Commander of the Order of Niger as well as the Order of Merit of Niger Republic
