Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has insisted that the current economic reforms of the present administration must translate into better living conditions among Nigerians.
Edun, who stated this on Wednesday in his closing remarks at the just concluded 31st Nigerian Economic Summit(NES#31) in Abuja, said it was the overall objective of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu led administration.
Speaking about the economic reforms, he said: “I will just emphasize that at the end of the day, the reforms must translate into better living standards.
“They must translate to lifting Nigerians out of poverty in their millions, that is the overall aim and objective, strategy and policy of the Renewed Hope Agenda, NESG strategic goals, dialogue and partnership.
“Over the last three days, we have done exactly what this Summit is promised to do, forge consensus around the reforms under the pillars of reform, resilience and, of course, results.
“And the key result that I would focus on, yes, growth. But in particular, moving Nigerians out of poverty as result of growth that creates jobs, that gives them incomes and reduces poverty.”
He assured the Federal Government’s readiness to implement the recommendations of the three-day Summit.
“So within government, we will, as we have been charged, to translate Summit outputs into a single time-bound matrix that aligns with the Summit objectives, sector -specific reform strategies, inputs to the national medium term, development plan, scalable sub-national models and strengthened private public partnerships.
“These are difficult to do, and it takes determination, resilience and being willing to stay the course to come up with projects that are feasible with both the public and the private sector playing their effective roles.
“We will integrate the jobs and productivity insights that were launched here on Day One with the agreed agenda, priority, productivity and efficiency,” he assured.
